A developer wants to build affordable one-story townhomes along Highway 165 in Placitas, but current residents have said they don't want the look of their community to change.
The Sandoval County Commissioners met in February to discuss the proposal. The recommendation of the Planning and Zoning Division was for the commissioners to deny the request.
Placitas is known for its pricey homes and stunning views. It's a nice, quiet place to retire to, but there aren't many affordable homes to downsize into. Homestead Development Company has located a builder who wants to put townhomes just west of the Homestead Village Shopping Center. Residents have said they don't want a high-density development in their neighborhood.
“The high density is not going to fit in there very well at all,” Bridget Vaisvil told KRQE. “I’m probably not the only one to probably not want it.”
In online documents, the Planning and Zoning Division said the development is not in line with the Placitas Area Plan (PAP). According to the PAP, "land use criteria and capital improvements recommendations" are developed with and by members of the community.
