We would like to warn everyone about a scam that is occurring where they are attempting to use names of officers from local agencies to make it seem real. These scammers will call you and tell you that they are with a local agency, whether it be the Sandoval County Sheriff's Office, Rio Rancho Police Department or some other local Law Enforcement agency and accuse you of having a warrant for your arrest. They will then advise you to get gift cards, send money or get your banking information to send them money to pay for the warrant. They claim that if you do not do this that you will be arrested.
Law Enforcement agencies WILL NEVER ask for you to pay for a warrant over the phone. They WILL NEVER ask you to give banking information in any case, whether over the phone or in person. They WILL NOT have you purchase gift cards or send money to pay for a warrant and they WILL NEVER call you to tell you that you have a warrant for any reason. Some of the reasons that the scammers are using is that a person has missed jury duty, failed to pay a ticket, or that you just have a warrant. If you have questions about if you truly have a warrant contact the courts, dispatch or Law Enforcement yourself to confirm this information.
If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact the Sandoval County Sheriff's Office at 505-867-7526
