Corrales kicked off the Christmas season with its Ride-In Round Up horse event Sunday afternoon.
Corrales equestrians rode to TopForm Arena to take part in a horsey costume contest, pose for pictures with St. Nicholas and drop off donations for the Corrales Fire Department’s annual gift and food drive. The Hotties Equestrian Drill Team also performed.
People on foot or in cars were welcome, too.

The Corrales Equestrian Advisory Committee, Corrales Horse and Mule People, Corrales MainStreet and the fire department collaborated on the event.
Fire Commander Tanya Lattin said the teamwork was great among the organizers and the local businesses who donated prizes for the costume contest. The gift and food drive got off to a great start at the event, she said.
Patty Carroll of the advisory committee estimated 30 to 35 horse-and-rider pairs participated in the costume contest or drill team performance, and 20-25 people came without horses to watch. More people dropped off donations without staying, she said.
Lattin said the gift and food drive runs through Dec. 20.
The Giving Tree is up at Village Hall, allowing people to get information about specific children for whom they can buy presents.
Lattin said people can donate nonperishable food if they want, but she orders a lot of food online through Instacart to provide fresh produce. Struggling families often only get fresh food if the fire department orders it because canned food is cheaper, she said.
That means monetary donations are helpful. Checks should be made out to the Kiwanis Club of Corrales or Corrales Foundation with “fire dept. drive” in the memo line.
Gift cards are also helpful.
All donations can be dropped off at the fire station, 4920 Corrales Road.
Lattin said CFD and its partners have already helped 13 families with Thanksgiving dinner, including providing premade meals for senior citizens.
