Holiday Pet Food Drive In RR

During a time when people can barely afford to feed themselves, pets are going hungry too.

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, approximately 6.3 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year.

Most of those companion animals were given up because the family couldn’t afford pet food.

However, the society says, ” Many food pantries provide pet food for people needing a little help during tough times – and that helps keep pets in the homes where they are loved.”

Rio Rancho is doing something similar this year.

There will be a Holiday Pet Food Drive and Adopt-a-Thon from Nov. 7 until Dec. 22 at Cabezon Community Center Mon.-Fri. 9 am to 5 pm.

“Help make a difference for a senior and their pets this holiday season by donating dog, cat, and bird food!” City of Rio Rancho Parks and Recreation said.

All donations collected will be divided between St. Felix Pantry and Storehouse West to aid their “Seniors in Need Program”.

At the event, a variety of different dogs and cats will be available for adoption.

Donations can include treats, dog food, cat food, and bird seed.
