A motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving an SUV in the North Valley on Wednesday morning.
The crash happened around 7:45 a.m. in the 4200 block of Second NW, near San Lorenzo, according to an email from Albuquerque police spokesman Rebecca Atkins.
She said, according to witnesses and video surveillance, the motorcycle was traveling at high speed without its front headlight in predawn hours. It was going north on Second, toward Griegos, when the southbound SUV turned into a business, hitting the motorcycle.
The rider was taken to University of New Mexico Hospital, where he died, she said. The SUV driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with officers.
“At this time, it does appear that speed and other improper driving on the part of the motorcyclist were factors in this crash,” Atkins said.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash and no charges are pending, Atkins added.
Northbound Second was shut down at San Lorenzo during the morning commute.
