City of Rio Rancho issued the following announcement on Dec. 23.
On January 4, 2021, construction will begin on Phase II of the Unser Boulevard Reconstruction Project. For approximately nine months, construction will take place on Unser Boulevard from Southern Boulevard to the Rio Rancho city limits. The project includes full pavement replacement, upgrades to the curb ramps to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and new pavement markings. Additive alternates include a new road section connecting Wellspring Avenue to Westside Boulevard that will serve as a detour route during project work and a permanent improvement that enhances traffic flow/connectivity in the area once project work is completed. Construction on the new road section and intermittent lane closures on Unser Boulevard will occur at the beginning of the project.
Throughout construction, Unser Boulevard and access to businesses will remain open at all times. The general construction work hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; however, night and weekend work may occur. Citizens are advised to follow posted traffic signage and to use caution while driving through construction areas.
Public virtual project updates will occur every two weeks starting on January 25, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Meeting information will be posted to the project’s webpage, www.rrnm.gov/unser.
The total cost of the project is $4,539,627.98 million and is funded by the 2020 General Obligation (G.O.) Road Bond, which Rio Rancho voters overwhelmingly approved in March 2020. The City's Utilities Department, with existing funds, is contributing approximately $69,000 for the water and wastewater utilities within the Wellspring Avenue additive alternate.
