CITY OF RIO RANCHO: Mortgage and Rental Assistance Available Now

Nonprofit funding

City of Rio Rancho issued the following announcement on Dec. 10.

During a special legislative session on November 25, $330 million in CARES Act Coronavirus Relief Fund funding was allocated to address the impact of the COVID-19 crisis in New Mexico. Included in the funding was $15 million for housing cost assistance, which will be administered by Mortgage Finance Authority (MFA). This amount is in addition to the $12.3 million Gov. Michele Lujan Grisham previous allocated, bringing total housing cost assistance funding to $27.3 million.

Beginning Thursday, December 10, MFA is again accepting applications for housing cost assistance. The assistance will provide qualifying New Mexicans with as much as $1,500 per month for up to three months to pay back rent or mortgage payments and other housing costs. A program factsheet is available here.

MFA is asking that you help get the word out about this crucial assistance. Please forward this email to your mailing list and encourage them to go to MFA's website for more details and to apply for assistance.

Applications will be received until funding is expended. Residents who have already received housing cost assistance are not eligible for additional funding for the same time period.

Please note that funding is reserved for New Mexico households earning 80 percent or less of the median income in their area, adjusted for family size. A complete list of income limits is here. Applicants must also certify that they have suffered a COVID-related financial hardship and that they are currently past due on their rent or mortgage payments.

For additional questions, go to MFA's website at housingnm.org, call 505.308.4206 or 866.488.0498, or e-mail bcoats@housingnm.org.
