Sandoval County issued the following announcement on Nov. 20.
On the evening of Thursday, November 19th, many area first responders worked together to rescue a free-roaming horse that had fallen into a septic tank at a private residence in Placitas.
Agencies on scene included Sandoval County Fire & Rescue, Corrales Fire, the Rio Rancho Fire Department, the Rio Grande Basin Heavy Technical Rescue Team, and the Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office.
The horse was rescued using a special harness and a skid steer that was used to gently raise it out of the tank.
The horse was unharmed with no visual injuries and walked away from the scene.
