City of Rio Rancho issued the following announcement on Sept. 11.

The City of Rio Rancho is excited to announce that registration is now open for the 2020 Virtual Rio Rancho 101 Citizens’ Academy. We are looking for Rio Rancho residents who want to learn more about city initiatives, how city government works, and how they can support the local community.

This engaging, eight-week long program is aimed at developing citizens’ understanding of municipal government by providing presentations by and question and answer sessions with department directors, and interactive activities that give participants an insider’s perspective into how the City of Rio Rancho operates. This year, due to COVID-19 safety restrictions, the Academy will be virtual, which means participants can tune in from the comfort of their own home and computer or mobile device.

The Citizens’ Academy begins October 5, 2020 and runs until November 23, 2020. Sessions will be held weekly on Mondays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will cover all aspects of city government from economic development to water/wastewater and roads. The program is open to any Rio Rancho resident 18 years of age and older, with priority given to citizens who have not previously served on a board/commission or as an elected official. The program is free for participants. Participants must commit to attending (virtually, of course) all eight sessions.

To learn more and for registration information, please visit rrnm.gov/engage or contact Annemarie Garcia at 896-8730 or angarcia@rrnm.gov. The deadline to apply is September 25, 2020.
