As a result of mass gathering restrictions and social distancing guidelines, hundreds of young adults in the community will miss out on one of life’s most memorable milestones, a traditional high school graduation ceremony. Because traditional graduation ceremonies will not take place this month, Rio Rancho Mayor Gregg Hull, Rio Rancho District 3 City Councilor Bob Tyler, Rio Rancho Public Schools, and local businesses have joined together to organize and recognize Rio Rancho Class of 2020 graduating seniors.
From May 25, 2020 through May 26, 2020, signs portraying and recognizing Rio Rancho graduating seniors will be displayed, depicting the year ‘2020,’ on the field of the Rio Rancho Sports Complex, 3501 High Resort Boulevard. On May 27, seniors and/or their families will be allowed to remove and keep the sign as a permanent memento. Any remaining signs will be kept at City Hall and graduates or their family members may call (505) 891-5015 to schedule a time to pick up the signs.
Citizens wanting to view the signs will be able to walk onto the field in groups of five or fewer during the viewing hours. Signs, collectively depicting the year ‘2020,’ will also be viewable for pictures from the multi-use trail on High Resort Boulevard and the corner of High Resort Boulevard and Ridgecrest Drive.
Viewing hours:
- May 25—noon until 8:00 p.m.
- May 26—8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
- May 27—8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. (may pick up and take signs on this day)
