A polling location for early voting will need to be secured before the upcoming election, according to the Sandoval County Clerk’s Office.
During a county commissioner meeting, County Clerk Eileen Garbagni announced three in-person polling locations have been secured but the county would have to amend the required four locations, the Rio Rancho Observer reported. To date, locations include the county administration building, Bernalillo Public Schools facilities and county fire stations.
In 2019, the commissioners approved a list of sites to serve as polling places. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the county has been turned down by senior centers, City of Rio Rancho building or Rio Rancho Public School buildings. No other inquiries have gained response other than one, which is pending.
During the meeting, which took place virtually, Garbagni said her office needed more money to cover postage on absentee ballots. To ensure a safe environment, poll workers will receive personal protective equipment, the Observer reported.
