As the COVID-19 outbreak continues to weigh heavily on New Mexico businesses and residents, local and government entities are offering assistance to small businesses and people in need during the pandemic.
The New Mexico Recovery Fund was approved on March 24 making $100 million in funds available to small businesses across the state. Short-term, low-interest loans will be made available to small businesses that are struggling to cover costs during the COVID-19 crisis.
The state is extending tax deadlines for employers and employees. Local schools and universities are moving to online classes.
In Rio Rancho, the RR Observer reports that local entities are providing assistance to people in need during the pandemic. Businesses such as Big Lots, Albertsons Markets, and Walmart are providing reserved shopping hours for seniors and those who are most vulnerable to the virus. The city's Utilities Department is suspending late fees and will not turn off services for those who are struggling financially during the crisis.
Additionally, local churches, schools and community programs will continue to deliver food and meals to those in need.
