Bernalillo County is about to undergo a complete road makeover and also repair several bridges, the Sandoval County Commission announced at a recent meeting, according to the Albuquerque Journal.

A total of 11 roads and four bridges will be repaired and Public Works Director Mark Hatzenbuhler indicated at the March 5 meeting that $7 million will be the cost to complete the repairs to the roads and bridges.

The funds will be obtained from the state’s Cooperative Program and the New Mexico Department of Transportation.

The move comes after some concerns were raised regarding the condition of the roads and bridges. The county prioritized the roads and bridges which need repair first and the rest will be slated for later renovation.

The county indicated it will present the list of projects to the NMDOT to determine how much funding they will provide, the Albuquerque Journal reported.

Stephen Montoya the county spokesman said that the county is ready to match whatever funding it gets with 25% of its own funds, according to the Albuquerque Journal.

One road--Abrevadero Road-- requires complete reconstruction.

“I think that is one of the things on my agenda is how to address the bigger picture here," said Commissioner Katherine Bruch, the Albuquerque Journal reported. "And where our bigger picture is, we have roads across the county that are in serious despair.”

“My district is a huge part of these roads, and I want to do everything to help my constituents have safe roads to drive to and from work, and school, and the grocery store,” said Bruch.
