State Senator Jay Block, a Republican representing New Mexico’s 12th Senate district since 2025, has recently posted on social media about the challenges residents face in accessing healthcare in the state.

On August 8, 2025, Block shared a story of two residents: “Meet Karn and Pat, a husband and wife who came to New Mexico three years ago to live in their dream home and enjoy our beautiful state. Now they are leaving because they can’t get access to healthcare fast enough. Losing such amazing residents that contribute to our state is” (August 8, 2025).

Later that day, Block commented on broader issues affecting healthcare access in New Mexico. He wrote: “This story is too common in our state. New Mexicans are fleeing to other states for healthcare. Why? Thank scumbag lawyers who love to sue doctors. Why do they do this? Because the laws were written to have jury trials in Santa Fe where juries have been awarding huge wins for” (August 8, 2025).

On August 11, 2025, Block expressed support for local efforts with another post: “Awesome! Great work!!! County by county.” (August 11, 2025).

Block succeeded Jerry Ortiz y Pino as senator after being elected earlier in the year. His recent comments reflect ongoing debates about healthcare accessibility and legal environments impacting medical professionals within New Mexico.
