State Senator Jay Block, a Republican representing New Mexico’s 12th Senate district since 2025, posted several statements on his Twitter account on May 16, 2026, addressing issues ranging from personal perseverance to criticism of city governance.
In an early post that day, Block shared a message about overcoming adversity: “This is a great man who overcame so much to live the American dream. We can all overcome hardships and take advantage of the opportunities this country gives us. There is nothing you can’t do if you work hard, have perseverance, and focus on the task of improving yourself.” (May 16, 2026).
Later in the day, Block commented on urban challenges in cities led by Democratic officials. He wrote: “This is happening all over the city, across many cities, run by democrats that let people live like this. They don’t help with treatment, support law enforcement to clean up the streets, or helping these poor animals from being abused. Democrats love it when dogs overdose,” (May 16, 2026).
Shortly after that statement, he added another post regarding criminal justice: “This scumbag should be in prison where he belongs and would not last.” (May 16, 2026).
Block was elected to the New Mexico State Senate in 2025 following his victory over former state senator Jerry Ortiz y Pino. As a member of the Republican Party and representative for District 12, Block has used social media as a platform to share his views on public policy and community issues.
