The Rio Rancho Police Department will introduce new mobile speed enforcement equipment as part of the city’s Safe Traffic Operations Program (STOP). The department announced that on December 13, 2025, it will replace the current vehicle-based automated speed enforcement cameras with updated units due to the phaseout of existing equipment. Ten new units will be deployed on locally maintained roadways in Rio Rancho.

Following the installation of the new equipment, there will be a 45-day warning period during which only warning citations will be issued to drivers. This transition aims to ensure motorists are aware of the change and have time to adjust before official citations begin.

The update is part of ongoing efforts by local authorities to improve traffic safety through technology and maintain effective speed monitoring systems.
