Remembering Candace . . . Welcoming Rubble

January 27, 2023

K-9 officers are an integral component of Public Safety. These dogs work diligently with their handlers to protect citizens in various environments such as the Sandoval County Detention Center (SCDC).

Recently, retired K-9 Officer, Candace, (pictured in the right-hand corner of the photo) passed. She was a seven-year veteran of Sandoval County, serving at the Sheriff’s Office and the Detention Center. Candace is remembered for her intelligence, commitment to the job, and personality. She is also remembered for her numerous contributions to public safety made while performing her duties.

New to the Detention Center staff is K-9 officer Rubble, a certified dual-purpose K-9. Rubble, who joined SCDC in the latter half of 2022, has completed his training and is now on active duty. Rubble is shown here with (from left) Chris Urbanic, Deputy Warden and Rubble’s handler; Gilbert Armendariz, Warden; Jonathan Perez, Deputy Director of Compliance and PREA; and Steve Farrelly, Deputy Director of Operations.
