State Senator Jay Block, a Republican representing New Mexico’s 12th Senate district since 2025, posted a series of tweets on August 27 and 28, 2025. The posts included remarks about community engagement as well as a controversial statement regarding mass shootings.
On August 27, Block shared his experience meeting with local Cub Scouts. He wrote, “It’s always a pleasure to talk to the Cub Scouts. These two young boys had to interview an elected official for a merit badge. I want to thank their mom for reaching out, and I look forward to hosting the scouts on the Senate floor. Do Your Best!!!”
Later that day, Block made comments about mass shooters in another post. He stated, “I wish this scumbag would have shot himself first before killing kids. That goes for all shooters. Kill yourself before you take the lives of innocent people.” The post drew attention due to its direct language addressing perpetrators of mass violence.
On August 28, Block expressed gratitude toward an individual named Scott in a brief message: “Thank you, Scott!!! You are an inspiration.”
Block succeeded Jerry Ortiz y Pino in the state senate after winning election in 2025.
