Sandoval County Receives FY2021 Audit and Accountability Award from the New Mexico Counties and State Auditor’s Office

January 25, 2023  –  Award presented at the NMC Legislative Conference Thursday, January 19, 2023

Sandoval County announced today that it received the Audit and Accountability Large County Award from the New Mexico Counties and State Auditor’s Office.  This award recognizes the County’s outstanding work on its audit, submitting a timely audit, and sustaining excellence with the highest audit opinions. According to New Mexico’s Counties and State Auditor’s Office, a good audit reflects a county’s strong finance department, elected officials, and management. This is Sandoval County’s second audit award with an unmodified opinion and financial management excellence.

Wayne Johnson, County Manager, said, “Sandoval County takes pride in performing our fiscal responsibilities at the highest level. This award reflects our commitment to our residents and demonstrates the expertise of our entire team. As the fastest-growing county in New Mexico, there are constant changes to our assets and operations, and we successfully manage them as this award indicates. We appreciate this recognition from the state.”

Ten counties were selected by New Mexico Counties and State Auditor’s Office for this award. In addition to Sandoval County, the following were recognized:  Doña Ana, San Juan,  Lea, Lincoln, McKinley, Roosevelt, Guadalupe, and Quay Counties as recipients for the annual Audit and Accountability Awards and Cibola County for most improved county.
